Diet Soda and Liquid Nitrogen
The essentials
- Authors propose a new method of creating an explosive reaction between diet soda and Mentos by immersing a plastic soda bottle in liquid nitrogen.
- Conventional approach involves dropping Mentos candies into diet soda to release carbon dioxide gas.
- Immersing the bottle in liquid nitrogen causes a similar reaction as adding Mentos conventionally.
- Lowering temperature increases solubility of carbon dioxide, leading to enhanced gas release when nucleation sites are introduced.
- This innovative approach adds novelty to the experiment and encourages further research on fluid dynamics and chemical reactions.
- The authors' proposal opens up avenues for understanding carbonation reactions under extreme conditions.

Do the CO$_2$ absorption by plants and emission by growing media obey Fick's law?Nadhifa Zahira Ramadhani Mart, Terry Mart · 2022 · The American Biology Teacher 84 (9), 545 (2022) · AI summary available
Abstract
A simple homemade greenhouse was constructed as a part of the high school project during the learning-from-home period. The greenhouse was used to show CO$_2$ absorption by Sansevieria trifasciata during the night, obeying Fick's law, while the CO$_2$ emission by the medium used to grow the plant does not. Although other plants can be used for this purpose, the use of Sansevieria is interesting and offers certain advantages because it absorbs CO$_2$ during the night. The project could also provide a simple tool for high school students to investigate the absorption and emission of CO$_2$ from home or in laboratory. Extension of this project to investigate the effect of plant respiration on t…

La Nube: La Manera Mas Emocionante De Experimentar Espejos PlanosJ. J. Lunazzi · 2009 · Caderno Brasileiro de Ensino de Fisica V26 N2 Agosto 2009 p.416-425 · AI summary available
Abstract
Abstract
Even if laboratory practice is essential for all scientific branches of knowledge, it is often neglected at High School, due to lack of time and/or resources. To establish a closer contact between school and experimental sciences, the University Sapienza of Roma and the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) launched the Lab2Go project, with the goal of spreading laboratory practice among students and teachers in high schools.

Gamification of Quantum Mechanics TeachingOle Eggers Bjælde, Mads Kock Pedersen, Jacob Sherson · 2015 · Physics Education · Not summarized yet
Abstract
In this small scale study we demonstrate how a gamified teaching setup can be used effectively to support student learning in a quantum mechanics course. The quantum mechanics games were research games, which were played during lectures and the learning was measured with a pretest/posttest method with promising results. The study works as a pilot study to guide the planning of quantum mechanics courses in the future at Aarhus University in Denmark.

An extensive Study of Teaching / Learning Quantum Mechanics in CollegeBayram Akarsu · 2010 · Physics Education · Not summarized yet
Abstract
Quantum physics is considered as one of the most remarkable discoveries of contemporary physics grown during previous century and gradually manifested to the scientific world such as inventions of laser, the transistor, the electron microscope, and semiconductor. Teaching of physical science has been stressed in the National Science Education Standards (NSES) from level K-12 as well as many state science standards (Gossard, 2000). The objectives of the current study are to investigate prospective elucidation of the most common learning difficulties, insufficient teaching strategies and other significant instructional or conceptual problems encountered by science and engineering college stude…

Blended learning: A data-literate science teacher is a better teacherJozef Hanč, Dominik Borovský, Martina Hančová · 2023 · Physics Education · Not summarized yet
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of blended learning in contemporary physics and, more generally, STEM education. In this contribution, we summarize current pedagogical models of blended learning, such as rotational and flexible non-rotational models, and customizable configurations of physical and virtual learning spaces. With the inevitable integration of digital technology as one of the pillars of blended learning, teachers find themselves in an unprecedented position to not only obtain data more frequently but also analyze it and adjust instruction accordingly. Consequently, we discuss a crucial element of blended learning effectiveness: data management and usage. In …

Learning of Content Knowledge and Development of Scientific Reasoning Ability: A Cross Culture ComparisonLei Bao, Kai Fang, Tianfang Cai et al. · 2008 · Physics Education · AI summary available
Abstract
Student content knowledge and general reasoning abilities are two important areas in education practice and research. However, there hasn't been much work in physics education that clearly documents the possible interactions between content learning and the development of general reasoning abilities. In this paper, we report one study of a systematic research to investigate the possible interactions between students' learning of physics content knowledge and the development of general scientific reasoning abilities. Specifically, this study seeks to answer the research question of whether and to what extent content learning may affect the development of general reasoning abilities. College e…

How are these papers found?
We compare the title and abstract of this paper with those of every paper summarized on this site, and with the papers Semantic Scholar recommends, those it cites and those citing it (for a much-cited paper, its most recent citations and, from OpenAlex, the most cited ones). Among the prior work and the follow-ups, the papers that use each other in depth, a method it uses and the much-cited follow-ups come a little higher. The levels (very close, close, related) come from the similarity of the texts, not from a judgment of quality; * marks a paper without an abstract, compared by its title. The sentence under a paper is written by an AI from the two abstracts: check it in the papers. A paper marked not relevant by three readers leaves the list.
For now only among the papers summarized on this site: search again to add the prior work, the follow-ups and Semantic Scholar’s recommendations.
