This study focuses on the challenges faced by international companies in effectively managing multicultural environments. It emphasizes the importance of cultural intelligence (CQ) as a crucial skill for leaders working in cross-cultural contexts to communicate effectively. Additionally, the study highlights the role of organizational structure in developing and promoting these skills within an organization. The main objective of this research is to investigate the impact of leader CQ on organizational performance, with organizational structure acting as a mediator. To achieve this objective, conceptual models and hypotheses were formulated based on existing literature. The research design employed a quantitative approach using a questionnaire for data collection and structural equation modeling for data analysis. The findings reveal that leader CQ has both direct and indirect (through organizational structure) positive and significant effects on organizational performance. In other words, organizations operating in multicultural environments experience higher performance when their leaders possess higher levels of CQ. Consequently, it is recommended that such companies invest in enhancing the cultural intelligence of their leaders to improve their performance in cross-cultural settings. Furthermore, designing appropriate organizational structures is crucial for fostering the development of intellectual capital within these organizations. In conclusion, this study underscores the significance of leader CQ and its influence on organizational performance in multicultural environments. By recognizing the importance of cultural intelligence and implementing suitable strategies to enhance it among leaders, companies can thrive in diverse global contexts while maximizing their overall performance.
International companies face challenges when managing multicultural environments, which means working with people from different cultures. Cultural intelligence (CQ) is important for effective communication in these situations, and it refers to understanding and adapting to different cultures. The way a company is organized can help develop and promote CQ within the organization. The objective of the research was to study how a leader's CQ affects the performance of the organization, with organizational structure playing a role in this relationship. The research used a quantitative approach, which means using numbers and data, like questionnaires, to collect information and structural equation modeling to analyze it. The findings showed that a leader's CQ has positive effects on organizational performance directly and indirectly through organizational structure. The recommendation is for companies to invest in improving leaders' cultural intelligence and creating appropriate organizational structures to encourage learning and development. In conclusion, having leaders with high cultural intelligence is important for companies to succeed in multicultural environments."
The Role of Cultural Intelligence and Organizational Structure in Managing Multicultural Environments
In today’s globalized world, international companies are increasingly operating in multicultural environments. This brings with it a unique set of challenges for leaders to effectively manage such contexts. In order to do so, cultural intelligence (CQ) is an essential skill that leaders must possess. Additionally, organizational structure plays a key role in developing and promoting CQ within the organization. With this in mind, this research paper seeks to investigate the impact of leader CQ on organizational performance, with organizational structure acting as a mediator.
Research Design and Methodology
This study employed a quantitative approach using a questionnaire for data collection and structural equation modeling for data analysis. The conceptual models and hypotheses were formulated based on existing literature related to the topic under investigation.
Findings
The findings reveal that leader CQ has both direct and indirect (through organizational structure) positive and significant effects on organizational performance. This suggests that organizations operating in multicultural environments experience higher performance when their leaders possess higher levels of CQ.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study underscores the significance of leader CQ and its influence on organizational performance in multicultural environments. By recognizing the importance of cultural intelligence and implementing suitable strategies to enhance it among leaders, companies can thrive in diverse global contexts while maximizing their overall performance. It is recommended that such companies invest in enhancing the cultural intelligence of their leaders as well as designing appropriate organizational structures for fostering intellectual capital within these organizations
One of the challenges for international companies is to manage multicultural environments effectively. Cultural intelligence (CQ) is a soft skill required of the leaders of organizations working in cross-cultural contexts to be able to communicate effectively in such environments. On the other hand, organizational structure plays an active role in developing and promoting such skills in an organization. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of leader CQ on organizational performance mediated by organizational structure. To achieve the objective of this research, first, conceptual models and hypotheses of this research were formed based on the literature. Then, a quantitative empirical research design using a questionnaire, as a tool for data collection, and structural equation modeling, as a tool for data analysis, was employed among executives of knowledge-based companies in the Science and Technology Park, Bushehr, Iran. The results disclosed that leader CQ directly and indirectly (i.e., through the organizational structure) has a positive and significant effect on organizational performance. In other words, in organizations that operate in a multicultural environment, the higher the level of leader CQ, the higher the performance of that organization. Accordingly, such companies are encouraged to invest in improving the cultural intelligence of their leaders to improve their performance in cross-cultural environments, and to design appropriate organizational structures for the development of their intellectual capital.
