Fast dynamic ejecta in neutron star mergers
    S. Rosswog, N. Sarin, E. Nakar et al. · 2024 · Phénomènes astrophysiques de haute énergie · Pas encore résumé
    Résumé scientifique

The ejection of neutron-rich matter is one of the most important consequences of a neutron star merger. While the bulk of the matter is ejected at fast, but non-relativistic velocities ($\sim0.2c$), a small amount of mildly relativistic dynamic ejecta have been seen in a number of numerical simulations. Such ejecta can have far reaching observational consequences ranging from the shock breakout burst of gamma-rays promptly after the merger, to an early ($\sim 1$ hour post-merger) blue kilonova precursor signal, to synchrotron emission years after the merger ("kilonova afterglow"). These all potentially carry the imprint of the binary system parameters and the equation of state. By analyzing …

Three Dimensional Core-Collapse Supernova Simulations with 160 Isotopic Species Evolved to Shock Breakout
    Michael A. Sandoval, W. Raphael Hix, O. E. Bronson Messer et al. · 2021 · ApJ 921 113 (2021) · Résumé IA disponible
    Résumé scientifique

We present three-dimensional simulations of core-collapse supernovae using the FLASH code that follow the progression of the explosion to the stellar surface, starting from neutrino-radiation hydrodynamic simulations of the neutrino-driven phase performed with the CHIMERA code. We consider a 9.6-$M_{\odot}$ zero-metallicity progenitor starting from both 2D and 3D CHIMERA models, and a 10-$M_{\odot}$ solar-metallicity progenitor starting from a 2D CHIMERA model, all simulated until shock breakout in 3D while tracking 160 nuclear species. The relative velocity difference between the supernova shock and the metal-rich Rayleigh-Taylor (R-T) "bullets" determines how the metal-rich ejecta evolves …

How to turn a Supernova into a PeVatron
Robert Brose, Iurii Sushch, Jonathan Mackey · 2025 · Phénomènes astrophysiques de haute énergie · Résumé IA disponible
    Résumé scientifique

Context. It is important to determine which Galactic cosmic-ray sources can accelerate particles to the knee of the cosmic ray spectrum at a few PeV, and in particular whether supernova remnants may contribute. Current models for particle acceleration in very young remnants assume the circumstellar material consists of smooth, freely expanding winds. There is strong evidence that some supernovae expand into much denser circumstellar material including dense shells ejected by eruptions shortly before explosion. Aims. We investigate the effects of dense circumstellar shells on particle acceleration in supernova shocks during the first few years post-explosion, to quantify whether such interact…

First detection of VHE gamma-ray emission from TXS~1515--273, study of its X-ray variability and spectral energy distribution
MAGIC Collaboration, V. A. Acciari, S. Ansoldi et al. · 2021 · Phénomènes astrophysiques de haute énergie · Résumé IA disponible
    Résumé scientifique

We report here on the first multi-wavelength (MWL) campaign on the blazar TXS 1515-273, undertaken in 2019 and extending from radio to very-high-energy gamma rays (VHE). Up until now, this blazar had not been the subject of any detailed MWL observations. It has a rather hard photon index at GeV energies and was considered a candidate extreme high-synchrotronpeaked source. MAGIC observations resulted in the first-time detection of the source in VHE with a statistical significance of 7.6$\sigma$. The average integral VHE flux of the source is 6 $\pm$ 1% of the Crab nebula flux above 400 GeV. X-ray coverage was provided by Swift-XRT, XMMNewton, and NuSTAR. The long continuous X-ray observations…

PSR J1907+0602: A Radio-Faint Gamma-Ray Pulsar Powering a Bright TeV Pulsar Wind Nebula
Fermi LAT Collaboration, the Fermi Pulsar Timing Consortium, : et al. · 2010 · A. A. Abdo et al 2010 ApJ 711 64-74 · Résumé IA disponible
    Résumé scientifique

We present multiwavelength studies of the 106.6 ms gamma-ray pulsar PSR J1907+06 near the TeV source MGRO J1908+06. Timing observations with Fermi result in a precise position determination for the pulsar of R.A. = 19h07m547(2), decl. = +06:02:16(2) placing the pulsar firmly within the TeV source extent, suggesting the TeV source is the pulsar wind nebula of PSR J1907+0602. Pulsed gamma-ray emission is clearly visible at energies from 100 MeV to above 10 GeV. The phase-averaged power-law index in the energy range E > 0.1 GeV is = 1.76 \pm 0.05 with an exponential cutoff energy E_{c} = 3.6 \pm 0.5 GeV. We present the energy-dependent gamma-ray pulsed light curve as well as limits on off-pulse…

Multiwavelength Analysis of GRB 250101A: From Gamma-ray Prompt Emission to Optical Afterglow
Guowang Du, Yehao Cheng, Yuan-Pei Yang et al. · 2025 · Phénomènes astrophysiques de haute énergie · Résumé IA disponible
    Résumé scientifique

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are the most luminous transients in the universe. The interaction between the relativistic jet and the circumburst medium produces a multiwavelength afterglow through synchrotron radiation. In this work, we present multiwavelength properties of GRB~250101A based on the observations of Swift, Fermi, and Multi-channel Photometric Survey Telescope (Mephisto). The spectral analysis of Swift/BAT and Fermi/GBM reveals a soft prompt spectrum with a low-energy photon index of $-1.18$ and a peak energy of 33 keV, and the isotropic energy is $1.4\times10^{52}~{\rm erg}$. The prompt emission of GRB 250101A aligns with Type II GRBs in the Amati relation. Meanwhile, our analysis i…

Wideband Study of the Brightest Black Hole X-ray Binary 4U 1543-47 in the 2021 Outburst: Signature of Disk-Wind Regulated Accretion
Geethu Prabhakar, Samir Mandal, Bhuvana G. R. et al. · 2023 · Phénomènes astrophysiques de haute énergie · Résumé IA disponible
    Résumé scientifique

A comprehensive wideband spectral analysis of the brightest black hole X-ray binary 4U $1543-47$ during its 2021 outburst is carried out for the first time using NICER, NuSTAR, and AstroSat observations by phenomenological and reflection modelling. The source attains a super-Eddington peak luminosity and remains in the soft state, with a small fraction ($< 3\%$) of the inverse-Comptonized photons. The spectral modelling reveals a steep photon index ($\Gamma \sim 2-2.6$) and relatively high inner disk temperature ($T_{in}\sim 0.9-1.27$ keV). The line-of-sight column density varies between ($0.45-0.54$)$\times10^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$. Reflection modelling using the RELXILL model suggests that 4U $15…

VERITAS discovery of very high energy gamma-ray emission from S3 1227+25 and multiwavelength observations
Atreya Acharyya, Colin Adams, Avery Archer et al. · 2023 · Phénomènes astrophysiques de haute énergie · Résumé IA disponible
    Résumé scientifique

We report the detection of very high energy gamma-ray emission from the blazar S3 1227+25 (VER J1230+253) with the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERITAS). VERITAS observations of the source were triggered by the detection of a hard-spectrum GeV flare on May 15, 2015 with the Fermi-Large Area Telescope (LAT). A combined five-hour VERITAS exposure on May 16th and May 18th resulted in a strong 13$\sigma$ detection with a differential photon spectral index, $\Gamma$ = 3.8 $\pm$ 0.4, and a flux level at 9% of the Crab Nebula above 120 GeV. This also triggered target of opportunity observations with Swift, optical photometry, polarimetry and radio measurements, also pres…
