Attention on Personalized Clinical Decision Support System: Federated Learning ApproachChu Myaet Thwal, Kyi Thar, Ye Lin Tun et al. · 2024 · Apprentissage automatique · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
Health management has become a primary problem as new kinds of diseases and complex symptoms are introduced to a rapidly growing modern society. Building a better and smarter healthcare infrastructure is one of the ultimate goals of a smart city. To the best of our knowledge, neural network models are already employed to assist healthcare professionals in achieving this goal. Typically, training a neural network requires a rich amount of data but heterogeneous and vulnerable properties of clinical data introduce a challenge for the traditional centralized network. Moreover, adding new inputs to a medical database requires re-training an existing model from scratch. To tackle these challenges…

Comprehensively identifying Long Covid articles with human-in-the-loop machine learningRobert Leaman, Rezarta Islamaj, Alexis Allot et al. · 2022 · Apprentissage automatique · Pas encore résumé
Résumé scientifique
A significant percentage of COVID-19 survivors experience ongoing multisystemic symptoms that often affect daily living, a condition known as Long Covid or post-acute-sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, identifying scientific articles relevant to Long Covid is challenging since there is no standardized or consensus terminology. We developed an iterative human-in-the-loop machine learning framework combining data programming with active learning into a robust ensemble model, demonstrating higher specificity and considerably higher sensitivity than other methods. Analysis of the Long Covid collection shows that (1) most Long Covid articles do not refer to Long Covid by any name (2) when…

WIP: Medical Incident Prediction Through Analysis of Electronic Medical Records Using Machine Lerning: Fall PredictionAtsushi Yanagisawa, Chintaka Premachandra, Hiruharu Kawanaka et al. · 2021 · Proceedings of ICIEV/IVPR2021 · Pas encore résumé
Résumé scientifique
This paper reports our preliminary work on medical incident prediction in general, and fall risk prediction in specific, using machine learning. Data for the machine learning are generated only from the particular subset of the electronic medical records (EMR) at Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University Hospital. As a result of conducting three experiments such as (1) machine learning algorithm comparison, (2) handling imbalance, and (3) investigation of explanatory variable contribution to the fall incident prediction, we find the investigation of explanatory variables the most effective.

Effective Feature Learning with Unsupervised Learning for Improving the Predictive Models in Massive Open Online CoursesMucong Ding, Kai Yang, Dit-Yan Yeung et al. · 2018 · Apprentissage automatique · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
The effectiveness of learning in massive open online courses (MOOCs) can be significantly enhanced by introducing personalized intervention schemes which rely on building predictive models of student learning behaviors such as some engagement or performance indicators. A major challenge that has to be addressed when building such models is to design handcrafted features that are effective for the prediction task at hand. In this paper, we make the first attempt to solve the feature learning problem by taking the unsupervised learning approach to learn a compact representation of the raw features with a large degree of redundancy. Specifically, in order to capture the underlying learning patt…

Data-Driven Malaria Prevalence Prediction in Large Densely-Populated Urban Holoendemic sub-Saharan West Africa: Harnessing Machine Learning Approaches and 22-years of Prospectively Collected DataBiobele J. Brown, Alexander A. Przybylski, Petru Manescu et al. · 2019 · Apprentissage automatique · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
Plasmodium falciparum malaria still poses one of the greatest threats to human life with over 200 million cases globally leading to half-million deaths annually. Of these, 90% of cases and of the mortality occurs in sub-Saharan Africa, mostly among children. Although malaria prediction systems are central to the 2016-2030 malaria Global Technical Strategy, currently these are inadequate at capturing and estimating the burden of disease in highly endemic countries. We developed and validated a computational system that exploits the predictive power of current Machine Learning approaches on 22-years of prospective data from the high-transmission holoendemic malaria urban-densely-populated sub-…

ClimateLearn: Benchmarking Machine Learning for Weather and Climate ModelingTung Nguyen, Jason Jewik, Hritik Bansal et al. · 2023 · Apprentissage automatique · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
Modeling weather and climate is an essential endeavor to understand the near- and long-term impacts of climate change, as well as inform technology and policymaking for adaptation and mitigation efforts. In recent years, there has been a surging interest in applying data-driven methods based on machine learning for solving core problems such as weather forecasting and climate downscaling. Despite promising results, much of this progress has been impaired due to the lack of large-scale, open-source efforts for reproducibility, resulting in the use of inconsistent or underspecified datasets, training setups, and evaluations by both domain scientists and artificial intelligence researchers. We …

Approaching Human-Level Forecasting with Language ModelsDanny Halawi, Fred Zhang, Chen Yueh-Han et al. · 2024 · Apprentissage automatique · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
Forecasting future events is important for policy and decision making. In this work, we study whether language models (LMs) can forecast at the level of competitive human forecasters. Towards this goal, we develop a retrieval-augmented LM system designed to automatically search for relevant information, generate forecasts, and aggregate predictions. To facilitate our study, we collect a large dataset of questions from competitive forecasting platforms. Under a test set published after the knowledge cut-offs of our LMs, we evaluate the end-to-end performance of our system against the aggregates of human forecasts. On average, the system nears the crowd aggregate of competitive forecasters, an…

Rainfall-Runoff Prediction at Multiple Timescales with a Single Long Short-Term Memory NetworkMartin Gauch, Frederik Kratzert, Daniel Klotz et al. · 2020 · Hydrol. Earth Syst. Sci., 25, 2045-2062, 2021 · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
Long Short-Term Memory Networks (LSTMs) have been applied to daily discharge prediction with remarkable success. Many practical scenarios, however, require predictions at more granular timescales. For instance, accurate prediction of short but extreme flood peaks can make a life-saving difference, yet such peaks may escape the coarse temporal resolution of daily predictions. Naively training an LSTM on hourly data, however, entails very long input sequences that make learning hard and computationally expensive. In this study, we propose two Multi-Timescale LSTM (MTS-LSTM) architectures that jointly predict multiple timescales within one model, as they process long-past inputs at a single tem…
