Abstract: Crowdsourcing in science, while etymologically linked to general crowdsourcing, plays a crucial role in democratizing science. It fosters inclusivity, responsiveness, openness, and technological advancement. Crowdsourcing in science involves online collaboration among individuals both within and outside academia. Crowdsourcing versatility positions it as a tool for creating online content; facilitating communication between educators and non-academic audiences; and generating innovative research questions, hypotheses, and proposals. It also supports data collection, analysis, problem-solving, and participant recruitment. This chapter aims to guide successful crowdsourcing in science. It covers essential competencies, explores researchers’ attitudes, and delves into managing people and human resources processes within the context of crowdsourcing in science.
