Abstract: Abstract Objective To examine evidence of internal structure validity, dimensionality, and reliability of the Brazilian version of the Mobile Device Proficiency Questionnaire (MDPQ-Brazil) in older adults. Methods This psychometric study used a convenience sample of 259 individuals aged 60 years or older who use mobile devices (smartphones and/or tablets). Data were collected using an online sociodemographic questionnaire and the MDPQ-Brazil. Descriptive analyses, normality testing, exploratory factor analysis using a polychoric matrix and RDWLS estimator, parallel analysis, model fit indices, and reliability estimates were performed. Results The sample had a mean age of 72.0 years, with a predominance of women and a high educational level. Exploratory factor analysis identified an essentially one-dimensional structure, with a general factor explaining most of the variance. The model exhibited good fit indices (GFI=0.983; AGFI=0.982) and high stability (H=0.982). Factor loadings were adequate (>0.30) for all items. Reliability was high (α=0.977; ω=0.979). Higher proficiency for basic functions and communication was observed, whereas lower performance for data storage and calendar use was found. Conclusion The MDPQ-Brazil demonstrated consistent evidence of validity and reliability, proving suitable for assessing the digital proficiency of older Brazilian adults. However, the findings should be interpreted with caution due to the sample’s high educational attainment and the absence of measurement invariance tests.
