Impact of Retrieval‐Augmented Generation Framework for Natural Language Processing
Ashish Jain (Sharda University), Amit Kumar Chaudhary (Sharda University)
Abstract: The combination of generative and retrieval-based approaches in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) represents a significant advancement in natural language processing. This method addresses major issues found in traditional generative models, such as hallucinations and knowledge gaps, by allowing language models to access extensive external information. As a result, it produces writing that is both contextually relevant and accurate. The usefulness of RAG is examined in this work on a variety of NLP tasks, including question answering, text summarization, and legal document summarization. The paper demonstrates significant improvements in response accuracy and a reduction in spurious outputs. We address the existing issues related to retrieval quality and computational efficiency while also acknowledging these shortcomings. Additionally, the paper delves into the technical aspects of RAG by examining its structural components and retrieval framework techniques.
