Editing Code in Your Language of Choice
Bruce Johnson
Abstract: Visual Studio Code is an editor. While many, many features and extensions are available, at its core, the editing functionality is of paramount importance. This chapter looks at the many ways there are to edit a file, the functions and shortcuts that are available to make web developers' life easier, and how they can configure the editor to be what they need it to be. There were three separate parts to the Explorer. The chapter also looks at two parts of the Explorer: the Open Editors and the Outline View. Visual Studio Code can edit many file types. Upon installation, editors are available for the following languages: JavaScript, JSON, HTML, CSS, TypeScript, Markdown, PowerShell, C++, Java, PHP, Python, Go, T-SQL, and C#. The language editor being used is determined by associating a file extension with a particular editor. IntelliSense is the collective name for a set of features that are related to code editing.
