Soybean is a highly traded and processed crop commodity, with the USA, Argentina, and Brazil being the top three producers and exporters of soybean and soymeal. The Indian soy industry has also made a mark in the national and global arena. While commerce continues to drive up soymeal, soyoil, lecithin, and other soy derivatives, there is a need to further promote soyfoods for human health and nutrition. The changing habitat of commerce in soy derivatives necessitates a shift in strategy, technological tools, and policy environment to make the Indian soybean industry continue to thrive in the new industrial era. To improve production yields feasibly despite short growing periods available in central India requires bridging gaps between actual yields (60-80%) with estimated national average yields (1.6 tonnes per hectare) through public sector guidelines such as Codex Alimentarius that ensure food safety while private sector standards such as Global Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) may become increasingly significant. The National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm (NMOOP) since 2014 has established agricultural ICAR centers alongside several universities' private initiatives/organizations striving to increase oilseed production. Future developments will see increased use of automated systems like precision agriculture using nanotechnology GPS remote satellite monitoring market information systems sensors drones in farm operations. Meeting economies of scale can be achieved by contract farming establishing farmer producer companies farmers' seed cooperatives input cost moderation facilitated availability of inputs crop insurance easy loans support price market intervention measures taken towards improving terms of trade in farming. Keeping in view global exports of Indian soy derivatives public sector guidelines such as Codex Alimentarius remain important to ensure food safety while private sector standards such as Global Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) may become increasingly significant. Expansion of soyfoods for human health and nutrition coupled with a conducive policy environment and dynamic trade facilitation are needed to bring an upsurge in economic activities concerning soy-derivatives business.
