Résumé scientifique

A comprehensive photometric and spectroscopic analysis of TIC 349005337, a highly active M-type detached eclipsing binary with an orbital period of 2.6079133 days, is presented utilizing high-cadence and long-term monitoring photometry from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and medium-resolution spectroscopy from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). By integrating radial velocity curves with light curves, we determined the fundamental physical parameters for both components. The system consists of an M-dwarf primary ($M_1 = 0.517 \pm 0.009 M_\odot$, $R_1 = 0.518 \pm 0.003 R_\odot$) and a fully convective secondary ($M_2 = 0.298 \pm 0.004 M_\odot$, $R_2 = 0.357 \pm 0.003 R_\odot$). A total of 12 high-energy stellar flares, with the most energetic event reaching $3.87 \times 10^{34}$ erg, is identified, confirming the system is in a state of magnetic hyper-activity. The frequent superflares suggest that intense magnetic activity and significant starspot coverage play a dominant role in altering the stellar atmospheric structure. As the secondary component falls below the fully convective boundary, these energetic flares provide critical empirical constraints for distributed dynamo models in the low-mass regime. Our results highlight TIC 349005337 as an ideal laboratory for investigating the interplay between binary dynamics, magnetic reconnection, and the resulting impact on the atmospheric stability of potential orbiting exoplanets.

Wideband Study of the Brightest Black Hole X-ray Binary 4U 1543-47 in the 2021 Outburst: Signature of Disk-Wind Regulated Accretion

A comprehensive wideband spectral analysis of the brightest black hole X-ray binary 4U $1543-47$ during its 2021 outburst is carried out for the first time using NICER, NuSTAR, and AstroSat observations by phenomenological and reflection modelling. The source attains a super-Eddington peak luminosity and remains in the soft state, with a small fraction ($< 3\%$) of the inverse-Comptonized photons. The spectral modelling reveals a steep photon index ($\Gamma \sim 2-2.6$) and relatively high inner disk temperature ($T_{in}\sim 0.9-1.27$ keV). The line-of-sight column density varies between ($0.45-0.54$)$\times10^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$. Reflection modelling using the RELXILL model suggests that 4U $15…

    G 68-34: A Double-Lined M-Dwarf Eclipsing Binary in a Hierarchical Triple System
Emily K Pass, David Charbonneau · 2023 · Solar and Stellar Astrophysics · cité 3 fois · Résumé IA disponible

Using high-resolution spectra from the Tillinghast Reflector Echelle Spectrograph (TRES) and photometry from sector 56 of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), we report that the nearby M dwarf G 68-34 is a double-lined eclipsing binary. The pair is spin-orbit synchronized with a period of 0.655 days. The light curve shows significant spot modulation with a larger photometric amplitude than that of the grazing eclipses. We perform a joint fit to the spectroscopic and photometric data, obtaining masses of $0.3280\pm 0.0034$M$_\odot$ and $0.3207\pm 0.0036$M$_\odot$ and radii of $0.345\pm 0.014$R$_\odot$ and $0.342\pm 0.014$R$_\odot$ after marginalizing over unknowns in the starspot…

Spectroscopic data are necessary to break degeneracies in asteroseismic modelling of the interior structure in high- and intermediate-mass stars. We derive precise photospheric stellar parameters for a sample of 166 B-type stars with TESS light curves, suitable for detailed asteroseismic studies, through a homogeneous spectroscopic analysis. The variability types of these stars are classified based on all currently available TESS sectors. We obtained high-resolution spectra for all 166 targets with the FEROS spectrograph in the context of a large program. The Least-Squares Deconvolution method is employed to investigate spectral line profile variability and to detect binary systems. We ident…

The secular tidal disruption of stars by low-mass Super Massive Black Holes secondaries in galactic nuclei
Giacomo Fragione, Nathan Leigh · 2018 · Astrophysics of Galaxies · cité 26 fois · Résumé IA disponible

Stars passing too close to a super massive black hole (SMBH) can be produce tidal disruption events (TDEs). Since the resulting stellar debris can produce a strong electromagnetic flare, TDEs are believed to probe the presence of single SMBHs in galactic nuclei, which otherwise remain dark. A few TDE candidates have so far been observed. In this paper, we show how stars orbiting an IMBH secondary are perturbed by an SMBH primary by means of high-precision direct N-body simulations. We find that the evolution of the stellar orbits are severely affected by the primary SMBH due to secular effects. As a result, those regions of parameter space corresponding to large stellar orbital inclinations …

The Kepler Catalog of Stellar Flares
    James R. A. Davenport · 2016 · Solar and Stellar Astrophysics · cité 163 fois · Résumé IA disponible

A homogeneous search for stellar flares has been performed using every available Kepler light curve. An iterative light curve de-trending approach was used to filter out both astrophysical and systematic variability to detect flares. The flare recovery completeness has also been computed throughout each light curve using artificial flare injection tests, and the tools for this work have been made publicly available. The final sample contains 851,168 candidate flare events recovered above the 68% completeness threshold, which were detected from 4041 stars, or 1.9% of the stars in the Kepler database. The average flare energy detected is ~$10^{35}$ erg. The net fraction of flare stars increase…

Although high energetic radiation from flares is a potential threat to exoplanet atmospheres and may lead to surface sterilization, it might also provide the extra energy for low-mass stars needed to trigger and sustain prebiotic chemistry. We investigate two flares on TRAPPIST-1, an ultra-cool dwarf star that hosts seven exoplanets of which three lie within its habitable zone. The flares are detected in all four passbands of the MuSCAT2 allowing a determination of their temperatures and bolometric energies. We analyzed the light curves of the MuSCAT1 and MuSCAT2 instruments obtained between 2016 and 2021 in $g,r,i,z_\mathrm{s}$-filters. We conducted an automated flare search and visually co…
