Existence results for quasilinear elliptic boundary value problems via topological methods
Auteurs : Quoc Anh Ngo
Résumé scientifique
In this paper, existence and localization results of $C^1$-solutions to elliptic Dirichlet boundary value problems are established. The approach is based on the nonlinear alternative of Leray-Schauder.

Résumé scientifique
We summarize current work aimed at showing that moduli spaces of solutions to non-linear elliptic Fredholm partial differential equations are derived log smooth manifolds.

On solutions of the transport equation in the presence of singularitiesEvelyne Miot, Nicholas Sharples · 2020 · Analyse des EDP · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
We consider the transport equation on $[0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^n$ in the situation where the vector field is $BV$ off a set $S\subset [0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^n$. We demonstrate that solutions exist and are unique provided that the set of singularities has a sufficiently small anisotropic fractal dimension and the normal component of the vector field is sufficiently integrable near the singularities. This result improves upon recent results of Ambrosio who requires the vector field to be of bounded variation everywhere. In addition, we demonstrate that under these conditions almost every trajectory of the associated regular Lagrangian flow does not intersect the set $S$ of singularities. Finall…

Trapping regions and an ODE-type proof of the existence and uniqueness theorem for Navier-Stokes equations with periodic boundary conditions on the planePiotr Zgliczynski · 2001 · Analyse des EDP · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
Using ODE-methods and trapping regions derived by Mattingly and Sinai we give a new proof of the existence and uniqueness of solutions to Navier-Stokes equations with periodic boundary conditions on the plane.

On transparent boundary conditions for the high--order heat equationDurvudkhan Suragan, Niyaz Tokmagambetov · 2013 · Analyse des EDP · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
In this paper we develop an artificial initial boundary value problem for the high-order heat equation in a bounded domain $\Omega$. It is found an unique classical solution of this problem in an explicit form and shown that the solution of the artificial initial boundary value problem is equal to the solution of the infinite problem (Cauchy problem) in $\Omega$.

Entropy conditions for quasilinear first order equations on nonlinear fiber bundles with special emphasis on the equation of 2D flat projective structure. IGheorghe Minea · 2009 · Analyse des EDP · Pas encore résumé
Résumé scientifique
Taking only the characteristics as absolute, in the spirit of Arnold's "Geometrical Methods in the Theory of Ordinary Differential Equations" (Springer, 1988), we give an independent of coordinates formulation of general variational entropy inequalities for quasilinear equations of first order, that locally read as Kruzhkov inequalities, in terms of certain "entropy densities", and in the case of the equation of 2D flat projective structure we get the expression of the general entropy density from its abstract Rankine-Hugoniot rule for shocks using the projective geometry of the plane.

A Non-Conservative, Non-Local Approximation of the Burgers EquationShyam Sundar Ghoshal, Parasuram Venkatesh, Emil Wiedemann · 2024 · Analyse des EDP · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
The analysis of non-local regularisations of scalar conservation laws is an active research program. Applications of such equations are found in the modelling of physical phenomena such as traffic flow. In this paper, we propose a novel inviscid, non-local regularisation in non-divergence form. The salient feature of our approach is that we can obtain sharp a priori estimates on the total variation and supremum norm, and justify the singular limit for Lipschitz initial data up to the time of catastrophe. For generic conservation laws, this result is sharp, since we can demonstrate non-convergence when the initial data features simple discontinuities. Conservation laws with linear flux deriva…

Variational aspects of the generalized Seiberg-Witten functionalWanjun Ai, Shuhan Jiang, Jürgen Jost · 2024 · Analyse des EDP · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
In this paper, as a step towards a unified mathematical treatment of the gauge functionals from quantum field theory that have found profound applications in mathematics, we generalize the Seiberg-Witten functional that in particular includes the Kapustin-Witten functional as a special case. We first demonstrate the smoothness of weak solutions to this generalized functional. We then establish the existence of weak solutions under the assumption that the structure group of the bundle is abelian, by verifying the Palais-Smale compactness.

Nonlinear echoes and Landau damping with insufficient regularityJacob Bedrossian · 2016 · Analyse des EDP · Résumé IA disponible
Résumé scientifique
We prove that the theorem of Mouhot and Villani on Landau damping near equilibrium for the Vlasov-Poisson equations on $\mathbb{T}_x \times \mathbb{R}_v$ cannot, in general, be extended to high Sobolev spaces in the case of gravitational interactions. This is done by showing in every Sobolev space, there exists background distributions such that one can construct arbitrarily small perturbations that exhibit arbitrarily many isolated nonlinear oscillations in the density. These oscillations are known as plasma echoes in the physics community. For the case of electrostatic interactions, we demonstrate a sequence of small background distributions and asymptotically smaller perturbations in $H^s…
