Krys Ochia
Résumé : The duality of trader citizen-cum-small scale entrepreneur is explored in a challenging developing country urban space that is characterized by intense competitive capitalistic economic system. How does the structural inequality existing between small businesses and large formalized business organizations contribute to problems in the management and operation of the marketplace stall business? What are the characteristics of the marketplace? How are traders ascending to the middle class despite underlying operational and fiscal challenges? The rather informal–formal continuum is the classic symptom of the structural inequality between informal microenterprises and large formal businesses; therefore, what challenges do traders face in the marketplace as a result of the structural inequality? In addition, how do problem typologies enter the calculus of choices made by the trader in operating and managing the stall business?
