Background: DBD cause disadvantageous outcomes for adolescents in terms of educational achievement, peer and social relations, and family relations, which hamper their potential to go on a productive life. Objectives: To translate the Parent/ Teacher Disruptive Behaviour Disorder (P/T DBD) Rating Scale (Pelham et al, 1992) to the Sinhalese language and to assess the construct validity of the translated version among adolescents aged 11 to 17 years.Method: The Translation / back translation method was used to translate the English DBD Rating Scale into Sinhalese. This scale is a multi-dimensional scale covering Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM) 4th version criteria for the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder (CD). Primary caregivers of adolescents aged 11 to 17 living in the medical officer of health area of Hambantota were introduced to the P/T DBD Rating Scale –Sinhala. Factor analysis was carried out using SPSS version 20.0.Results/ conclusions: Four-factor extractions accounted for 36.8% of the variance, whereas 12-factor extractions explained 64% of the variance in the data set. Maximum variance was explained by Factor 1 consisted of all the items in ADHD- ADHD-Hyperactivity and ODD scales. All the items in the ADHD- Inattention sub-scale were loaded into Factor 2, which accounted for 6.4% of the variance of the total sample. Items in the CD subscale were loaded into Factors 3 and 4, which altogether accounted for 9.9% variance of the total data set.

Abstract Introduction The Brief Ataxia Rating Scale (BARS) and Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) are used to quantify cerebellar ataxia severity. We investigated how often clinicians’ ratings match patients’ reports of functional impairment, which scale items patients consider important, and whether incremental changes in item scores are meaningful to patients. Methods 30 patients with cerebellar ataxia completed BARS, SARA, FARS Functional Staging, and an Importance of Activities of Daily Living questionnaire. We studied BARS and SARA item scores for over- or underestimation in relation to patients’ perception of impairment. We explored patients’ rankings of item importance in relation to daily function, and their perception of the likely importance of 0.5- and 1-point changes in BARS gait and speech. Results Patients identified gait as most important on BARS and SARA, followed by oculomotor (BARS) and stance (SARA). Heel-to-shin was least important, with highest overestimation on both scales. Total overestimated points were similar between BARS (2.65 ± 2.80) and SARA (2.78 ± 2.78). 0.5-point changes in BARS gait and speech scores were rated very or extremely important by 60% and 46.6%, respectively, increasing to 83.3% and 70% for a 1-point change. Conclusion Gait is most meaningful to patients with cerebellar ataxia. BARS oculomotor and SARA stance rank second. BARS and SARA appendicular measures have limited patient-perceived clinical meaningfulness. 0.5-point increments in BARS gait and speech provide greater granularity of assessment and are considered meaningful by a substantial proportion of patients, supporting their relevance in practice and in clinical trials.

Wind tunnel and flight experiments were performed on a general aviation 6.1:1 scale model, where pulse-modulated dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuators were used to control wing stall. Plasma actuation on the unpowered model produced modest increases in maximum lift coefficient, while post-stall lift coefficients never dropped below the baseline (non-actuated) maximum. Flow visualization revealed that actuation fully attached the outboard flow while also preventing inboard leading-edge stall. Powered wind tunnel tests showed that the propeller wake promotes, or exacerbates, separation at post-stall angles of attack, but these effects are partially overcome by actuation, which delivers a 6% reduction in stall speed. Flight experiments, performed while gliding, showed that actuation dramatically reduces uncontrolled pitch, roll and yaw, and loss of altitude. By preventing massive separation, actuation facilitates safe and stable flight at angles of attack at, and greater than, the baseline static stall angle. The DBD plasma stall control system can easily be retrofitted to a full-scale general aviation aircraft, or integrated into the wing design.

Background: Depression is a widespread and incapacitating mental health disorder that impacts millions of people worldwide, playing a substantial role in the overall global health challenges. Depression has a big impact on a person’s quality of life, cognitive and social functioning, risk of suicide, risk of heart disease and other illnesses, as well as death from all causes. . Objective: Objective: It may be challenging to choose the best tools to screen for severe depression in patients with recurrent depression disorder (PRD) considering the diversity of psychological scales in Vietnam. The aim of this study was to evaluate diagnostic value for detect severe depression of four psychological scales including Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), Beck Depression Inventory Scale (BECK), and Zung’s Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) by genders and age groups among PRD in Vietnam. Methods: This study was conducted at National Institute of Mental Health, Bach Mai Hospital, Vietnam, from 2020 to 2021. There were 109 PRD evaluated with HAM-D, HAM-A, BECK, and SAS by qualified psychiatrists. By analysing Area Under the Curve (AUC) of Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve, we determined sensitivity, specificity and cut points of four above scales. Results: Among four scales, the BECK scale had the best diagnostic effect with the most optimal sensitivity and specificity (61.64% and 75%, respectively). We proposed the new cut-off of HAM-D, HAM-A, BECK, and SAS for detecting severe depression among PRD were 20, 34, 30, and 45, respectively. By genders, the cut points for the HAM-D, HAM-A, BECK, and SAS in males were 20, 27, 34, and 44, respectively, while those figure in females were 14, 34, 30, and 46, respectively. By age groups, adults had cut values for four above scales of 20, 34, 27, and 45, respectively, whereas those for the elderly were 16, 17, 35, and 44, respectively. Conclusion: We highly recommended that BECK is the most optimal method to screen severe depression in PRD in Vietnam. It is essential to utilize varied cut values of HAM-D, HAM-A, BECK, and SAS for different genders and age groups.
