The COVID-19 pandemic has forced educational institutions worldwide to shift from traditional classroom settings to online learning. In India, the government and authorities like the University Grants Commission have encouraged higher education institutions to implement online education during this crisis. However, this transition has not been easy for everyone, as teachers and students alike face challenges in adapting to new technologies. To better understand the situation, a study was conducted by Subaveerapandiyan A and R Nandhakumar from the Regional Institute of Education in Mysore, India. The study aimed to assess the ICT skills and related online class skills of teaching faculties in higher educational institutions in India during the pandemic situation. The results showed that while most teachers had basic ICT skills, they lacked advanced technical knowledge required for effective online teaching. Additionally, teachers faced challenges such as poor internet connectivity and lack of access to necessary hardware and software tools. To address these issues, the authors recommend that teacher training programs should focus on improving both technical skills and content knowledge (TPACK) for effective online teaching.
