## Summary

With the explosive growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, there is a need to organize and represent knowledge effectively. Knowledge graphs, which are graph data structures that accumulate and convey knowledge about the real world, have gained significant attention in academia and industry. This paper provides a systematic overview of knowledge graphs, focusing on their opportunities and challenges. The opportunities of knowledge graphs are discussed in two aspects. Firstly, AI systems built upon knowledge graphs can benefit from the structured representation of information, enabling more efficient reasoning and decision-making processes. Secondly, knowledge graphs have potential applications in various fields such as healthcare, finance, and recommendation systems. For example, in healthcare, knowledge graphs can be used to integrate medical records and provide personalized treatment recommendations. However, there are several technical challenges associated with knowledge graphs. One challenge is the representation of entities and relationships within the graph structure through techniques like knowledge graph embeddings. Another challenge is acquiring new knowledge to expand the graph's coverage through methods like automated extraction from text or crowdsourcing. Additionally, completing partial or missing information within the graph (knowledge graph completion) poses another challenge. Furthermore, integrating multiple knowledge graphs (knowledge fusion) and performing complex reasoning tasks based on the available information (knowledge reasoning) are also challenging areas within this field. Overall, this survey provides insights into the opportunities and challenges of knowledge graphs. It highlights their potential for enhancing AI systems and their applicability across various domains. The identified technical challenges serve as directions for future research to further advance the development of knowledge graphs.
